Dublin Coddle for St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day to all of my friends--Irish dancers, readers, authors, and bloggers! I'm making this for my family today, and re-posting this post for your enjoyment!

This traditional Irish dish has such a cool name that I didn't have to come up with my own for the recipe.  Lament by Maggie Stiefvater is steeped in Irish folklore, and reading it put me in the mood for some of this meaty, filling soup.

St. Patrick's Day is a big deal around our house, and I stumbled on this yummy recipe just this year.  Whala!  A new family tradition.  I hope you enjoy it as much as we have.

Dublin Coddle

1 Pound pork sausage. sliced (I use turkey sausage, the kind that is shaped like a lucky horseshoe)
1 Pound diced ham
1 quart of boiling water
1 yellow onion, sliced
2 pounds of potatoes, diced
4 T. chopped fresh parsley ( I used chopped fresh chives, as that is what was growing in my garden)
Salt and pepper to taste

Put the meats in the boiling water for five minutes.  Drain the liquid, reserving it for later.
Put the meat in a large saucepan with the vegetables and cover with the liquid.  Cover the pot and let simmer gently for about an hour, until the potatoes are cooked but not mushy.  Season to taste.  Serve with fresh Irish Soda Bread and a glass of stout or (in my case) homemade root beer.

Giveaway Gaze into Heaven by Marlene Bateman Sullivan

Gaze into Heaven by Marlene Bateman Sullivan

I'm pleased to present to you a unique look on near-death experiences, and a chance to win a copy of Gaze into Heaven by Marlene Bateman Sullivan. In browsing the pages of this book, I am amazed at the many accounts of the early saints who stood at the edge of death's precipice, and what they experienced.

Gaze Into Heaven is a compilation of fifty documented near-death experiences of life beyond the veil, drawn from the early history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Filled with insight and inspiration, this book melds engrossing personal experiences with perceptive commentary, scripture, and quotes from latter-day Prophets. After reading this book, you won't ever think of life---or death---the same way.

The Key of Kilenya by Andrea Pearson

My friend, Andrea Pearson, has just had the fourth book in her young adult fantasy series published. In celebration, the first book, The Key of Kilenya, is available for free as an eBook, and the second book, The Ember Gods, is available as a $0.99 Kindle eBook until March 3rd.

The Key of Kilenya has been in the top 100 for teen fantasies on Amazon since last May and has been very popular with young (and adult) readers. They compare it to Harry Potter along with Brandon Mull's Fablehaven and Beyonders books, with a hint of Narnia and Lord of the Rings.
